Hello families,
I hope you all have had a wonderful week! Make sure to read through this email as it will have important information :) My Leave - After having discussions with administration and after recent doctor appointments which indicate this baby may come sooner rather than later, I will be starting my maternity leave on March 1st. That being said, this upcoming week will be my last week. Please keep a look out for communication from administration regarding my long term sub that will be coming in for the rest of the year. I will help to make sure the transition is smooth and the kiddos will be left in GREAT hands. I will always be available as well, so please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. It's a very bittersweet time for me as I am very ready and excited for my little girl to arrive, but will miss your kiddos like crazy! I will be keeping tabs on them :). Again, please let me know if you have any questions! Mock FSA - The kids did great on their mock FSA. I think it gave them a good taste of what to expect. I gave them back to them with some areas of focus that I think they should focus on the next few weeks. I will make sure it is implemented in the classroom, but also wanted to just send home the information for you guys to help support at home. I will also be posting more resources to the Google Classroom to help them prepare. But I was very pleased with how they did, and I know they will do great! Habitat Diorama - Do not forget that their dioramas are due on Monday. I am looking forward to seeing them all! Our Motto of the Week: J Kindness is like snow. It beautifies everything it covers. As a reminder, please remember to pack only healthy snacks and water for your child’s snack time. Avoid cookies, candies, cakes or sweets; fruits, vegetables, pretzels, crackers etc… are healthy alternatives. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great week!

Hello families,
Thank you all for the Valentine’s goodies, cards and sweets! The kids had an awesome day today! We had a great time. I did not assign homework this week, so focus on your habitat projects! MOCK FSA- We will be doing a MOCK FSA on Wednesday, February 17th. It will be a good practice for them to see what to expect, and give me the opportunity to see what areas we need to focus on as we approach the test! I know they will do great :). GREATEST SHOWMAN WEEK - We will be doing our Greatest Showman week next week! This is one of my favorite weeks. We use the movie to not only work on different literary skills, but also to talk about how we can celebrate and accept one another's differences. Don't be surprised if your kiddos come home singing the tunes :) Please let me know if you do not wish for your child to participate. Now that we are in the 3rd Quarter, we will REALLY be getting down to business. We will be working hard to practice and sharpen our skills for 3rd grade to make sure we are ready for 4th grade. We will also be preparing for the FSA which will be in April/May. I am really going to be pushing them, and expecting them to be responsible for their behavior and learning. Our classroom will have 14 kiddos in person, and 4 at home, so it will look a little different than it did at the beginning of the school year. Since there are now more kiddos in the room, we will spend most of next week reiterating the classroom rules and expectations. If you can help reinforce these things at home, it would be GREATLY appreciated! Classroom Rules- 1. We are READY. -We are prepared to learn and listen. 2. We are RESPECTFUL. -We listen to others and use kind words. **There has been an issue with arguing back with teachers (not just myself) lately. I have reminded them it is disrespectful to talk back, so I am hopeful it will be better moving forward :).** 3. We are RESPONSIBLE. -We take care of our supplies. classroom and environment. 4. We are SAFE. - We are careful and make good choices. 5. We TRY OUR BEST. -We put forth our best effort, even when it is hard. We DO NOT give up. Picture Day- Vernon Photography will be at our school taking our "official school picture" on Thursday, January 21, 2021. These pictures are used for our yearbook and student school records. Every student must be photographed. If your student is a virtual learner, they can be photographed at the end when we are done with the rest of the students. I will provide you with that time in a separate email If this does not work with you, please contact Vernon directly via email at:[email protected], or by phone at:(727) 329-8962 February Fact Challenge- We will be having a February Fact Challenge! We will be working together on our multiplication facts 1-12 and turning it into a classroom challenge. More details are to come, but I have already posted a section in Google Classroom for them to be able to practice their facts at home. Again, I will be sending out more information on it soon, but wanted to give the heads up in case they want to go in and start to practice/memorize their facts :). Again, next week will mainly be focused on reiterating classroom rules and expectations, but here is what we will be starting to work on and continue to work on the following week. · In Language Arts we will focus on reading passages and finding evidence to support topics and ideas. · In Math we will start to look at fractions as numbers. · In Science we will continue to look at plants, and talk about plant reproduction. · In Writing we will be working on using evidence to support our ideas in our writing. · In Social Studies we will discuss Inauguration Day. Today, we remember the events of 9/11 which took place 19 years ago. I appreciate you all taking the time to speak with your kiddos about this day in our history this past week. It has been so interesting to hear all of the different stories and emotions that were felt that day. I told the class that I remember being in my 8th grade art class and just feeling very sad. It was hard to comprehend still being so young, but an event I continue to learn more about as I get older. It reminds me how proud I am to be an American. Even in the craziness of this world! I feel so honored to be a part of molding the future of our country :). We had a great week, even though it was shorter. Everyone is getting into a groove and understanding how things work and I am SO proud! Please let me know if there is anything I can help with. But know that you all are doing AMAZING! Our Motto of The Week: You are braver than you think, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think! Weekly Curriculum

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful 3 day weekend!! I just want to say THANK YOU so much for your support through this whole thing. I go home daily trying to think of ways to make this easier for everyone, because I know this is so hard. We have and will run into glitches here and there. I am finding some things work, and some do not. So I also greatly appreciate your flexibility. I think your kiddos are doing AMAZING. I am so proud of them and know that they will continue to grow. Please just do your best this week to complete the assignments. It was a learning week for the kiddos as far as what to expect and what our flow will look like. In addition to the spelling activities they will also submit a reading log. It will also be in the homework section on Google Classroom, and they can input and submit the log via Google Forms. WEEKLY CENTER WORK- During the week they students will be working on centers choice boards for both ELA and for Math. Man that week flew by! I want to say THANK YOU for all your hard work and flexibility as we navigate this new school normal. Your kiddos have been doing SO WONDERFUL and I am already so proud to be their teacher. It will still have bumps along the way, and I am already trying to think of ways to tweak it and make it better. But I know your kiddos will do amazing. They have done so well with their beginning of the year assessments. I tried to reiterate with them that they are end of the year 3rd grade tests, so they should not be discouraged by bad scores since we have not gone through 3rd grade yet. But I am very impressed with their scores so far. Way to go :) Again, I appreciate your flexibility. It will get better! You guys are doing so wonderful. Have a great weekend! Here is what we have going on next week- Weekly Curriculum In Language Arts we will describe characters in our stories and will explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. My name is Mrs. Holden, and I am so honored to be your child's 3rd grade teacher this year. With this year being as crazy as it is, we appreciate all your patience and flexibility as we get ready for this year. A lot of moving around had to be made between the classes, but I am confident we are going to have a great year together. We have decided to have Mrs. Mullins handle just Brick and Mortar kiddos and I will be handling all the virtual learning kiddos (with a handful of B&M kiddos in my room). We feel this will be the best way we can serve all our families in this very interesting time and I am so excited to make this a year for the books! As you have been informed, this year our open house will be virtual! So I will be sending out an informational video and PowerPoint going over everything you will need to know this year. I will also have a time slot available to you for you to jump onto a chat with me so I can help answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability. My time slot is Wednesday, August 19th from 11:00-12:00. If that time does not work for you, do not hesitate at all to reach out to me via email! Please know that this is going to be a year where we really are going to have to work together. But more importantly, it will be a year where we need to show grace and kindness. This is not something we ever expected to navigate, and I know everyone is doing the best they can to make it work. Here at Plato Academy we have high expectations for academics and behavior and we plan to uphold those. However I think one of the greatest things about Plato Academy is how we value connection and relationships with our families. So please know I will be here for you every step of the way and I will work with you during this very crazy time. I am very much looking forward to this year! I will keep information posted on my website so please check there or look for my weekly emails for updates. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and I will see you soon! I will be sending an email to just the kiddos soon :). All the best, Mrs. Holden |
