We are entering the last two months of school! This year has FLOWN by! I am so proud of your kiddos and all they have accomplished so far. We have a lot of work to do, and I am confident they will do great. School Store School store money will be due Friday, April 6th with the school store taking place on Thursday, April 12th @ 8:15am. We need volunteers! If you are a cleared volunteer available to assist for the April School Store, please click on the link below: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409094fa4ad2aa0f94-april Sock Hop The PTO is excited to announce our upcoming Spring Sock Hop Dance on April 27th! While more details will come home soon, we are asking for your help. The dance this year, for both boys and girls, will have a silent auction to help raise money for classroom resources. We have compiled a wish list of items to help make these baskets. If you are able to get any of these items donated or are willing to purchase any, please sign up below and bring your donated items to the school no later than April 20th. Additionally, if you are artistically talented and would like to make an item, that would be wonderful. To donate an item not already included on the list, please choose "other." If you are in need of a letter on letterhead to procure a donation, please contact us at [email protected]. Please think about anyone you may know in the community who may be willing to help us out! At the end of each month, one student from each classroom, whose behavior exemplifies the Character Trait of the Month, will be awarded a certificate and invited to the Character Breakfast with Mrs. Perez! It is Plato Academy’s expectation that as we continue to emphasize positive character traits we will only continue to improve. March's Character trait is Honesty: Using truthful speech and behavior. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Be respectful. 3. Be honest. 4. Stay on task. 5. Listen to ALL directions. 6. Do the right thing (even if no one is watching). 7. If Mrs. Holden is not in the room, act the same way you would if she were. Reading: We will be continuing to read the book, called Money Matters! We are learning how to ask an answer questions as we read to help us understand our text. Writing: We have been talking about writing and what it is we need to be good authors. We have gone through the writing process and had fun sharing our stories with one another. We will continue to work with different, exciting prompts. Math: We will starting a new topic. We will be looking at numbers to 1,000! I will also be taking the results of the test we are taking on the first 8 topics to drive my small group instruction and help where there is need. Science: We will continue to look at the sun. We will investigate how the sun warms water, land, and air. We will also be looking at the air and investigate how air is all around us. Social Studies: We have finished discussing all 45 presidents! The kids really enjoyed learning about them. We will be continuing our discussions about working to meet our needs. A few reminders - -Please bring a filled water bottle. -I would suggest having your kids bring a Plato approved sweater or jacket, it tends to get a little chilly in our room! -If you are not buying a school lunch please bring a full lunch. Everyone should also bring a snack for our Morning Snack. -Remember your placards for dismissal, we are not able to release your child without them. If you do not have it, please come in and show ID to Ms. Riley so we can release your child to you. -Please remember to bring your V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.folders every day. Here we are in March already! I am so excited for what is ahead for your kiddos, they are growing so much! March School Store Volunteers - we need your help! If you are an approved volunteer and are able to assist with the school store on March 8th, please click on the link below and register: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409094fa4ad2aa0f94-march **YEARBOOK** The 2017-2018 Yearbook will be about 50 pages in length and the cost is $35, which INCLUDES your child’s name, personalized on the bottom right hand corner of the Yearbook. Please continue to take photos of events (field trips, class activities or parties) and email them to Kiria Angela at intzesa@platoacademy.net or Mrs. Holden @ holdenh@platoacademy.net or copy onto a disc and return to school. It would be great help if you can label them and/or edit them for quality. All yearbook orders may be placed at https://yearbookordercenter.com and our school’s code is 15089. The ONLY method to order and make a payment is ONLINE. Yearbook orders are due by TODAY, March 2, 2018. Again, thank you in advance for your support. This week in music we have been working hard on learning new notes on recorder for Kindergarten and first grade. We have also been learning new songs from Disney movies that the kiddos are really getting into. Second and third grade are working at learning notes on the music staff as well as learning a song that third grade will hopefully be performing for everyone soon. Writing: We have been talking about writing and what it is we need to be good authors. We have started our writing and next week will work on editing. Math: We have started working on our new topic, Topic 8, which involves money and time. We will continue our discussions about coins and dollars and how to add and subtract using them. Science: We will be "helping the city" by observing and different types of soil to help determine which soil would be best to use for a city wide beautification project! Social Studies: We will continue to discuss the presidents as we are now up to president 20! We will also be talking about our roles as citizens and the reasoning behind certain rules and laws within our society.
