The 100th day of school is coming up. I would like to invite 2nd grade to wear a shirt that day with 100 items on it! For those who would like to participate, have your child make a shirt with 100 things on it. Maybe these are bugs, or unicorns, or googly eyes :) Get creative! Character Counts Monthly, students will learn about a new character trait. At the end of each month, one student from each classroom, whose behavior exemplifies the Character Trait of the Month, will be awarded a certificate and invited to the Character Breakfast with Mrs. Perez! It is Plato Academy’s expectation that as we continue to emphasize positive character traits we will only continue to improve. January's character trait is Self-Motivation: Working in a careful and consistent manner without giving up. Mrs. Holden's Classroom Expectations 1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Be respectful. 3. Be honest. 4. Stay on task. 5. Listen to ALL directions. 6. Do the right thing (even if no one is watching). 7. If Mrs. Holden is not in the room, act the same way you would if she were. In Greek... This week's Student of the week is....AnaCrystal!! Congratulations! This week in music class we have been working hard on improving our recorder technique. Students have been learning new notes and have been playing with better tone and control. We have also been working with the solfege to improve our singing, and many children are getting more command of their voices and maintaining pitch. We have also been using the percussion instruments to refine our sense of rhythm and reinforcing our knowledge of the rhythm values of notes in standard notation. Music listened to in class: “Giant Steps” John Coltrane; “Sweet Caroline” Neil Diamond Dates to remember-1/20 - Plato Academy Job Fair 1/25/18 - {Let's Do S'More Reading Night!} "On Track" to Literacy Success 2/2 - 100th Day of School! We will take what we have learned about sentences to start working on forming proper paragraphs. Math: We will be finishing up our topic on fluently subtracting within 100. We will take a day or two to review in preparation for a topic exam on Friday! Science and Social Studies: We will be doing combined lessons and talking about animals in different parts of the world. We will start off by looking at different predators in cold, arctic environments. A few reminders - -Please bring a filled water bottle. -I would suggest having your kids bring a Plato approved sweater or jacket, it tends to get a little chilly in our room! -If you are not buying a school lunch please bring a full lunch. Everyone should also bring a snack for our Morning Snack. -Remember your placards for dismissal, we are not able to release your child without them. If you do not have it, please come in and show ID to Ms. Riley so we can release your child to you. -Please remember to bring your V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.folders every day.
