10/6/2017 0 Comments Happy October :)Happy October Families!
October is such a fun time of year. With all the festivals, Halloween and cooler weather, I am really looking forward to a great month! I would really love to partner with you parents on some topics I am working on with your kids. I will start including in my updates some recommendations on what you can do with your kids at home. This week I would love to give you some reading comprehension questions you can ask your kids as they read each day. Reading Comprehension Questions -How is this story like any other story you know? -How is the setting (time and place) important to the story? -What words did the author use to describe the place? If you have not done so already please sign up for a conference with me! I would love to speak with you about your child's academic progress thus far. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/508054eaaa623a7ff2-beginning Please do not forget your field trip form and money ($12 cash) if you have not turned it in yet! Here is a peek at next week! Reading: We have finished our informational text Friends Around The World and will look at a new story called The House on Maple Street. We will take a look at them both and identify what the author's purpose is in each. Writing: We will continue a writing workshop focused on sentence structure and paragraph formation. Math: We are continuing with our new topic on adding within 100 using different strategies. We will review what strategies we learned so far and then continue to look at other ways we can add withing 100. Science: We are starting a new unit on the Weather and Sky. We will first look at the weather and talk about the water cycle and changes in the weather. Social Studies: We briefly introduced history and how it helps us understand our world today. We will take this week to talk about technology and how we can use these resources to help us find information. We will also revisit Internet safety and the importance of staying safe on the web. A few reminders - -Please bring a filled water bottle. -I would suggest having your kids bring a Plato approved sweater or jacket, it tends to get a little chilly in our room! -If you are not buying a school lunch please bring a full lunch. Everyone should also bring a snack for our Morning Snack. -Remember your placards for dismissal, we are not able to release your child without them. If you do not have it, please come in and show ID to Ms. Riley so we can release your child to you. -Please remember to bring your V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.folders every day.
