11/17/2017 0 Comments Happy Thanksgiving!HAPPY THANKSGIVING FAMILIES!
This week has been so much fun! I am so grateful for your kids. They really are a special group of kids and I look forward to seeing them every day. I am also so thankful for your partnership! My goal is your kiddo's overall success and well being so I appreciate you all willing to work with me to help them succeed. You guys are amazing! The kids loved hearing about all the different career options out there at our Great American Teach-In. They will all make a difference in our world one day! Thank you to all the parents who helped to make our Thanksgiving feast a huge success. The kids had a great time, so thank you :) I hope you all enjoyed the Veteran's Day/Oxi Day performance. I am so proud of all of them, they totally rocked it! We have been working on being good citizens and I saw that today. SO proud! Please continue to encourage your kids to be leaders in the classroom. Your partnership is very much appreciated! Mrs. Holden's Classroom Expectations 1. This week in music we have been working hard on recorder, learning new notes and new songs. Kindergarten has been getting much better with not squeaking or playing too loud. First graders are getting more confident about playing the correct notes and reading the music. Second and third graders are learning to read notes from the board and play loud and soft. We recently acquired new technology that allows us to read music in notation from the smartboard, so that is exciting for all grades. All grades are learning the songs for the winter program and are making much progress towards being prepared for their performance. Music listened to in class: “My Favorite Things” John Coltrane; music from “The Grinch Stole Christmas” Dates to remember-11/17 - Progress Reports Distributed 11/18 – All Pro Dad’s Game Night with the Lightening 11/20-11/24 – Thanksgiving Holidays 11/27 – Welcome back students and families! 12/1 - November Character Counts Breakfast with Mrs. Perez Here is a peek at next week! Reading: We have finished The Earth Dragon Awakes. They LOVED it! We will be reading shorter texts when we return and comparing them to The Earth Dragon Awakes. Reading Comprehension Questions -How is this story like any other story you know? -How is the setting (time and place) important to the story? -What words did the author use to describe the place? -Who is the most important character? -How does the author tell us about the character? -Which character changed int he story? How did he/she change? Writing: We will be starting to work on writing more than one paragraph. We will start with a short two paragraph narrative. Math: We will continue to work on Topic 3 in our small group lessons. As a whole group we have moved on to Topic 4 and learning how to add fluently within 100. Science: We will continue to talk about the different states of matter. We will take a look at how states of matter can change, and what that is called. Fun stuff! Social Studies: We have learned all about the Pilgrims and how they impacted America. But we have discussed the peace between the Pilgrims and Indians was short lived. We will take a look at the changes in America made from more settlers coming to America. A few reminders - -Please bring a filled water bottle. -I would suggest having your kids bring a Plato approved sweater or jacket, it tends to get a little chilly in our room! -If you are not buying a school lunch please bring a full lunch. Everyone should also bring a snack for our Morning Snack. -Remember your placards for dismissal, we are not able to release your child without them. If you do not have it, please come in and show ID to Ms. Riley so we can release your child to you. -Please remember to bring your V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.folders every day.
