Notes from Mr. Meeks, music teacher K – 2 This week in the music class we have been learning all about rhythm and the notes, as well as learning more about solfege. Students have been testing their vocal skills every day and improving their pitch matching and accuracy. More instruments have arrived and we have been having quite a good amount of fun trying them out. Look for letters about recorder to come home in the next week, as we will begin learning recorder in October. Music listened to in class: Issac Albeniz “Asturias”; Daft Punk “One More Time” Here is a peek at next week! Reading: We have finished reading Trouble at the Sandbox and are starting to read other text selections. We will then compare and contrast the new texts to the Trouble at the Sandbox. Writing: We will continue to work on our rough drafts of our personal narratives. We will work together to edit and revise these drafts in preparation to write our final drafts. Math: We will be finishing up our first topic on adding and subtracting within 20. We will spend time reviewing the material learned and then prepare for our first test in math next Friday! Science: As we continue our unit on Life Science, we will start to discuss habitats. We will take a look at what they are and the different types there are in our world. Social Studies: We will be spending time this week discussing Rules and Responsibilities. We will take a look at what that looks like at home and at school. A few reminders - -Please bring a filled water bottle. -I would suggest having your kids bring a Plato approved sweater or jacket, it tends to get a little chilly in our room! -If you are not buying a school lunch please bring a full lunch. Everyone should also bring a snack for our Morning Snack. -Remember your placards for dismissal, we are not able to release your child without them. If you do not have it, please come in and show ID to Ms. Riley so we can release your child to you. -Please remember to bring your V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.folders every day.
