I hope your cool fall is off to a great start! I don't know about you, but I am SO ready for some cooler weather! Hopefully it is coming soon :) NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 16th. Enjoy your 3 day weekend! As a class we spent time talking about respect and what that looks like in the classroom. I need your help! Help me encourage your kids to make respectful choices at home and at school. We reiterated the classroom expectations and I would love it if you could review it with them at home. They are a great group of kids and can't wait to see them all grow this year! Mrs. Holden's Classroom Expectations 1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Be respectful. 3. Be honest. 4. Stay on task. 5. Listen to ALL directions. 6. Do the right thing (even if no one is watching). 7.If Mrs. Holden is not in the room, act the same way you would if she were. In Greek... This week's Greek Student of the week is....JULIAN! Congratulations!! In Music...K-3 This week in music we started with recorder lessons and distributed recorders to students who purchased them from us. Parents, please make certain that your child brings their recorder to school on the day that music class is for them. Also, we began working on the music for the winter program. We are doing “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” for the younger grades this year. Each grade is doing their own song from the movie. Music listened to in class: “Carnival of the Animals” Camille Saint-Saens, “Rainbow Connection” Kermit the Frog If you have not done so already please sign up for a conference with me! Here is a peek at next week! Reading: We have finished our first unit! We will spend the week reviewing the key topics we discussed such as main idea, key details, and point-of-view. Once we are done reviewing we will have our end of unit assessment on FRIDAY. Reading Comprehension Questions -How is this story like any other story you know? -How is the setting (time and place) important to the story? -What words did the author use to describe the place? Writing: We will take what we have learned from sentence structure and really work on forming paragraphs. We will write about different topics using graphic organizers to organize our thoughts. Math: We are continuing with our new topic on adding within 100 using different strategies. We will review what strategies we learned so far and then continue to look at other ways we can add withing 100. Science: We will continue our unit on the Weather. I will be sending home a fun project for you to work on with your kiddos on the different types of clouds. I can't wait to see them :) Social Studies: We will be reviewing all the topics we have discussed so far from our Studies Weekly series. We will be preparing to get started with our first look into history starting with explorers. A few reminders - -Please bring a filled water bottle. -I would suggest having your kids bring a Plato approved sweater or jacket, it tends to get a little chilly in our room! -If you are not buying a school lunch please bring a full lunch. Everyone should also bring a snack for our Morning Snack. -Remember your placards for dismissal, we are not able to release your child without them. If you do not have it, please come in and show ID to Ms. Riley so we can release your child to you. -Please remember to bring your V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.folders every day.
